Convenient Enhanced Edition NPCs

A mod for BG:EE, BG2:EE and EET (Enhanced Edition Trilogy) that allows you to tweak the new Beamdog NPCs.

Author: Argent77

Overview

A mod for BG:EE, SoD, BG2:EE and EET.

The new NPCs introduced in the Enhanced Editions differ somewhat from the original cast and might not be everyone's taste. This mod provides a number of options to adapt them to your comfort level. You can make their first appearance more passive, giving you more control over whether or when to make the first contact. A small number of events will be slightly altered to make this possible.

Alternatively it is also possible to simply remove one or more NPCs from the game. In that case you have the choice to make their personal or quest-related items available to everyone in stores or as loot.

Additional components allow you to improve their portraits or customize their classes and/or kits to whatever you desire. You can find more detailed information below.

Visit the SHS Forums or the Beamdog Forums if you have questions, or download the the latest version from Spellhold Studios or GitHub.

Compatibility

"Convenient Enhanced Edition NPCs" should be compatible with every mod out there that doesn't significantly alter the starting locations and scripts of the Enhanced Edition NPCs. At present only Pecca's mod "EE_content_tweaks" is known to interfere with this mod in BG:EE. This mod will check if it has been installed and refuses to install relevant components if detected.

The mod is fully compatible with Siege of Dragonspear. However, tweak options for SoD NPCs will be more restricted because of their close involvement in the plot.

IMPORTANT: Version 4.0 of the mod contains several structural changes. Do not install it together with earlier versions of this mod (3.5 or earlier)!

Installation

This is a WeiDU mod, that means it is very easy to install. Simply unpack the downloaded archive into your game's installation directory (where you can find the file "chitin.key") and run "setup-A7-ConvenientEENPCs.exe" (Windows) or "setup-A7-ConvenientEENPCs.command" (macOS). Follow the instructions and you are ready to start.

It is strongly recommended to start a new game after installing the mod.

To uninstall, run "setup-A7-ConvenientEENPCs.exe" or "setup-A7-ConvenientEENPCs.command" again and follow the prompts.

Note for Siege of Dragonspear (SoD)

GOG and Steam both install the "Siege of Dragonspear" expansion in a way that is not moddable out of the box. You must install a mod called DLC Merger on your SoD installation before this or any other WeiDU-based mods can be installed.

Mod Components

Group: Appearance

  1. Modify Enhanced Edition NPCs (BG:EE, BG:SOD, BG2:EE and EET)

    1. Disable all NPCs: Disables NPCs all at once.
    2. Make all NPCs passive: Makes all NPCs passive at once.

The following components are only available when selecting subcomponent "Decide for each NPC individually":

  2. Modify individually: Baeloth

    1. Disable Baeloth (BG:EE and EET only): This component prevents Baeloth from spawning in BG:EE. (Black Pits and Siege of Dragonspear are not affected.)
    2. Make Baeloth passive (BG:EE and EET only): This component reduces the introduction cutscene to a bare minimum and prevents Baeloth from initiating a conversation on his own.
  3. Disable Dorn (BG:EE, BG:SOD, BG2:EE and EET)

This component prevents Dorn from appearing in BG:EE, BG:SOD and BG2:EE.

  4. Modify individually: Hexxat

    1. Disable Hexxat (BG2:EE and EET only): This component prevents Hexxat and related NPCs from appearing in BG2:EE.

In BG2:EE this component triggers the introduction cutscene in the Bridge District only when you talk to Neera. She can be found near the place where the Red Wizards cutscene occurs after the townsfolk talked about the local murders.
  6. Modify individually: Rasaad

    • BG:EE: His special ring can be purchased from "Lucky Aello's Discount Store" in Baldur's Gate at a huge discount. Item description has been fixed. 8. Allied Caelar Argent in Avernus boss battle (BG:SOD and EET)

This component allows you to control Caelar Argent if she joins the battle as an ally. The following options allow you to refine her behavior even further:

    1. Joins as controllable follower if no free party slots available: Retains the original behavior of the game by letting Caelar Argent join as a regular party member if a free slot is available.
    2. Always joins as controllable follower: Prevents Caelar Argent from joining the party when invited, even if there is a free party slot available. This option is mostly useful for players who want to solo the whole game.
